Research points to a link between poor dental health and increased chances of heart disease and other serious, costly health problems. MetLife group dental plans offered through The Contractors Plan can help your employees save money and improve the health of their family members – which in turn can reduce the possibility of costly claims. MetLife has over 21 million members, more than 45 years of dental benefits experience and “Superior” (A+) financial strength as rated by A.M. Best.

Lower out-of-pocket costs for in-network services

The MetLife Preferred Dentist Program (PDP) offers plan benefits based on negotiated fees that are typically 15% to 45% less than the average fees charged by dentists in your area for the same or similar services. All participating PDP dentists have agreed to accept negotiated fees as payment in full for in-network services. This may even extend to services not covered by your plan and those provided after the annual benefits maximum has been exceeded.

Freedom to use any dentist

With MetLife's PDP (PPO) dental, you can go to the dentist you're most comfortable with, even if he or she isn't in our network. But with over 135,000 in-network dentist locations—including over 32,000 specialist locations—there’s a good chance your dentist is part of the MetLife PDP. Plus, you’ll be assured they’ve passed a rigorous selection process.

Less paperwork, less worries, and more service

There’s no paperwork if your dentist submits your claims to MetLife. Employees can even receive pre-treatment estimates while they’re at the dentist. Any time your employees want to check coverage, claim status or history, or get an estimate, they or their dentist can get a quick answer by phone, fax or online. All the information they want is available, when and how they want it.

Frequently asked MetLife dental questions

How do members find an in-network dentist?

Visit http://www.metlife.com and click on "Find a dentist."

May participants choose a non-participating dentist?

Yes. However, if participants choose a dentist who does not participate in the MetLife PDP, the out-of-pocket expenses may be more, since the participant will be responsible to pay for any difference between the dentist's fee and the plan's payment for the approved service. If a participant receives services from a participating PDP dentist, they are only responsible for the difference between the PDP in-network fee for the service provided and the plan's payment for the approved service. Please note: any plan deductibles must be met before benefits are paid.

Do members need an ID card?

No. Participants should notify their dentist that they participate in MetLife's PDP. The dentist can easily verify information about coverage through a toll-free, automated Computer Voice Response system.

Do my dependents have to visit the same dentist that I elect?

No, each member has the freedom to choose any dentist.
